06/09/15 - New Plants added plus Doncaster IHS show

posted 7 Sep 2015, 07:14 by Michael Jones   [ updated 7 Sep 2015, 07:26 ]

We've added a large number of plants to our listings today. We propagate these plants ourselves and so numbers of some, particularly slow growing species, will be limited. We are ever expanding our plant species so get in touch if you require any particular species.

We will be taking a variety of plants, as well as our usual livefoods, to the IHS Breeders Meeting on 20th September at Doncaster Racecourse - at present we will be on the room on the 1st floor (most tables are on the ground floor) so come and say hi!

For directions and details of the event please visit the IHS website:

Also please check out our updated frog list, including our first batch of grown on Ranitomeya imitator "Chazuta" froglets:

These are a very pretty thumbnail dart species from the Ranitomeya group. They are non obligate egg feeders meaning they can be raised outside the adult vivarium or the adults can raise the tadpoles themsleves if provided with tadpole deposition sites (bromeliad axes, film cannisters etc).

They will thrive in heavily planted vivaria with climbers and their favoured bromeliads.

We will soon be stocking a number of more hard to come by livefood species:
      • Orange morph common rough woodlice (Porcelio scaber orange)
      • Temperate blue springtails (Podura sp.) -  a tiny species, up to 1.5mm species, easily raised at room temperature and  ideal for newly morphed thumbnail froglets
      • Small white tropical springtails (Unknown sp.) - a tropical species smaller than Seira sp. but just as productive
      • Pea aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum) - a pest to many vegetable gardeners but readily taken by smaller amphibians!

We'll announce when these feeder species are ready for sale!

We are pleased to announce that we can now offer two more feeder species on our livefoods list.

Vinegar eels (Turbatrix aceti) are non-parasitic nematodes up to 2mm long that are a great starter food for obligate live feeders such as some fish fry, caudate larvae and other amphibian larvae such as Afican Dwarf Frogs (Hymenochirus) - £2 per starter culture (plus p&p)

White Worms (Enchyrtraeus albidus) are a non-parasitic worm species that grows from 1 to 3cm and are an excellent food for advanced hyenochirus and caudate larvae, newly morphed  and adult amphibians as well as fish such as discus. Easily cultured on a soil/peat based mixture - £3 per starter culture (plus p&p)

Caresheets are available for these species and all others we offer here
